Commissioner’s Corner: 2012 Mid-Season Report

We have already passed the half-way point of our 2012 season and it is hard to believe how fast the summer is going. The weather has been spectacular and the crowds at our games have been impressive. The parity among our ten teams is beginning to show with a vengeance as the teams are rapidly grouping together in what promises to be very tight pennant races as everyone jockeys for playoff positions.

The first half of the season offered some great opportunities for our student-athletes. Besides an unusually large amount of scouts at our games, the players all participated in an organized workout at Fenway Park in Boston on Wednesday, July 11th before representatives from all Major League Baseball teams. What an opportunity to take batting practice and go through infield and outfield drills at one of the most attractive baseball parks in America. This was a special day that many of our players and their families and host families will never forget.

There will be representatives from all of our ten CCBL teams participating in a home run derby at Fenway Park on Sunday, July 22nd prior to the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays game. We are celebrating Cape Cod Day during the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park and we are pleased to be included in this special day with the Boston Red Sox.

No less than a week later we will be having our annual CCBL All-Star Game on Saturday, July 28th at 6PM at Whitehouse Field in Harwich right behind Harwich High School. This is one of our signature events of the whole year and the attendance will be in the range of 7,500 spectators. Come early for autographs, watch batting practice, enjoy the Home Run Derby and settle back and watch nine innings of the finest collegiate summer baseball in the country. This is a day you won’t want to miss as it is the ultimate in a real family experience of pure baseball in America.

We will have barely caught our breath and the playoffs will be under way at sites to be determined on Thursday August 9th. What a whirlwind summer that takes too long to get here and ends way too soon! We hope you have been able to attend some games and enjoyed them as much as we enjoy hosting them. It’s very common that a “hot” team comes out of nowhere and tears through the playoffs enroute to the CCBL Championship. Who will it be this year? Come out to enjoy the excitement and we will find out the answer together.

Best wishes!
Paul A. Galop, Commissioner
