WAREHAM, Mass.,-- While both ball clubs’ starting pitchers, the Braves’ Justin Jones (Cal- Berkeley) and the Gateman’s Brad Kuntz (Baylor), threw six solid innings for their respective teams, the Gateman controlled the scoreboard, racking up runs for themselves, and blundering in favor of the Braves.

With two runners on in the 4th, Wareham’s Georgia Tech duo of Daniel Palka and Mott Hyde, hit consecutive RBI singles, giving the Gateman a 2-0 advantage. Battling back with bases loaded in the fifth, the Braves’ stranded three runners, a missed opportunity that would prove to be fatal at the game’s conclusion.

Despite the missed chance, tables turned in the sixth inning, as a dropped fly ball in left and an overthrow to first, gave Bourne a 3-2 lead. Regardless of the two costly errors, Wareham’s persistence prevailed in the eighth, as a Kyle Schwarber (Indiana) sacrifice fly ball to left and a Tyler Horan (Virginia Tech) single knocked in a combined three runs giving the Gateman a 5-3 cushion for the win.

The game improves the Gateman to 1-0 in the best two-out-of-three Cape Cod Baseball League’s Western Division series final. The Braves will have home field advantage, and a chance to even out the score, tomorrow at Doran Park. Start time for the game is 8pm. Because of a previous commitment at the ballpark, early game arrivals will be directed to Gallo Arena from which there will be ample shuttle bus service to the field. Those who arrive to the field after 7:45pm should have no problem parking normally.
