 PITCHER: Walker Buehler – Yarmouth-Dennis

With Yarmouth-Dennis taking home the Cape League championship, it should come as no surprise that two Red Sox players swept the final Coca-Cola Pitcher and Player of the Week honors of 2014 and were named co-MVPs of the postseason.

Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week Walker Buehler (Vanderbilt) shut down the Falmouth Commodores in Game 1 of the championship series. Buehler tossed eight shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out eight and allowing just one walk. Buehler finished the summer posting a stingy 0.63 ERA and racking up 24 strikeouts.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Buehler will be returning to Vanderbilt for his junior year. He went 12-2 during the 2014 season with a 2.83 ERA and 111 strikeouts.

 PLAYER: Marcus Mastrobuoni – Yarmouth-Dennis – C

It was quite a year for the Red Sox, overcoming a dismal start to win their fourth Cape League crown in the last decade. Y-D was carried by their its players, including Marcus Mastrobuoni (Cal St Stanislaus), whose powerhouse play last week earned him a Coca-Cola Player of the Week nod.

Mastrobuoni truly shone in the championship series, homering in the ninth and racking up three RBIs to top Falmouth 5-0 last Thursday. His confidence was unwavering in the clinching game against Falmouth, and the power hitter tallied two RBIs to finish the summer sporting an impressive .382 average.

Originally from Livermore, Calif., Mastrobuoni recently wrapped up his junior year with the California State Stanislaus Warriors, finishing with a .373 average and racking up 16 runs on 60 hits at his 161 appearances. In 2014, Mastrobuoni was also named to the All-Region and All-California Collegiate Athletic Association teams.
