Simon Mathews (Georgetown) hurled the Chatham Anglers to a huge upset win over the Eastern Division champion Harwich Mariners by pitching eight innings with 11 strikeouts in Round 1 win. The 11 K’s were most by a pitcher this season in the Cape League.

The 6’2” 175-pound pitcher compiled a 1-3 record for the Anglers during the regular season with a 4.30 ERA. The West Haven, Conn., product was 1-0 in the playoffs with a 0.00 ERA.

Falmouth slugger JJ Matijevic (Arizona) enjoyed a banner performance for the Western Division Champion Commodores by hitting .421 with one double, two homers, including 3-run HR in playoff Game 1) and an eye-popping eight RBI.

During the regular season, Matijevic led Falmouth with a .376 batting average and belted two homers, nine doubles and drove in 15 runs.
