7/5 Cape Cod Baseball League Wrap Up

Falmouth (9-10-1): 17 at Cotuit (9-10-1): 7

It was a slugfest between the Commodores and Kettleers Thursday evening scoring a combined twenty four runs on twenty eight hits. Cotuit was able to score their seven runs in three straight innings, starting with a five-run fourth inning including a two run home run from Michael Toglia, an RBI double from Ryan Reynolds, and a single from Michael Salvatore which scored two more. However, Falmouth was able to score sixteen of their runs from the third inning to the seventh, capping it off with a six run seventh inning to put the game out of reach for Cotuit.

This contest continued to go back and forth featuring three lead changes and tying runs. Y-D committed four errors to help the Hawks score some of their runs. Braden Comeaux of Hyannis had a big night driving in three of the seven runs for the Hawks, while the Red Sox had seven different players drive in a run each. The game was only able to fit eight innings due to darkness, and Y-D was able to capitalize in the bottom of the eighth and score a game tying run before the ballgame was called.

Wareham (14-8): 13 at Bourne (10-10-1): 1

It was all Gatemen on Thursday evening in Bourne, putting up thirteen runs on sixteen hits to cruise to a 13-1 victory. After Wareham allowed a run in the first, their pitchers were not letting much else happen after that, holding Bourne to that lone run and five hits. Wareham executed with runners in scoring position with two three-run innings and two two-run innings. A home run by Austin Shenton helped build the Gatemen’s lead.

Harwich’s pitchers had a huge night on Thursday after combining for a complete game six-hit shutout that included six strikeouts. A big sixth inning from Harwich scored three runs including a two-run double from Danny Casals and a walked in run after a bases loaded walk forced a run in. Brewster had just one extra base hit from Ray Alejo who squared up a double.

The only scoring for night in Orleans was the Firebirds three-run third inning which was ultimately the contest’s deciding factor. The first run was off the bat of Sal Gozzo which sailed over the fence for a home run. After a few singles and a fielder’s choice, Carter Aldrete roped a double to score two runs. Orleans used a stellar five inning start from Joey Lancellotti who was able to allow no runs and strikeout eight Anglers.
