7/30 CCBL Recap

Monday featured just two makeup games due to rainouts earlier in the season.

Brewster (12-25-4): 2
Cotuit (21-17-3): 9

Cotuit scored four multi-run innings to defeat the Whitecaps on Monday. In the first, Zachary Biermann hit a solo shot and Duke Ellis added a single to center field to score a second run. Biermann drove another run in on a groundout which was followed up by another groundout from Michael Toglia that scored another, giving Cotuit a cosy 4-0 lead. They struck again the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Brady Smith, a double from Jonathan Robertson, and Biermann with his third RBI of the game with a single to center to drive in Robertson. Brewster found their way on the board with a Dominic Canzone two-run double in the fifth. Both of those runs were negated when the Kettleer’s scored two in the seventh on an Ellis single and a fielding error on Peyton Burdick’s groundout. Cotuit’s offense rolled and their pitching was even better allowing just the two runs on seven hits.

Orleans (13-27-1): 9
Hyannis (22-16-3): 11

It was a slugfest in Hyannis, with just the ninth serving as the only inning where there was not a run scored. Orleans took a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the second thanks to three runs in the first on a Spencer Steer single that scored one and an error on a pop fly that scored two and another Steer single in the second. The Hawks scored on a Todd Lott double in the second and two more runs in the third on a fielder’s choice and sacrifice fly from Seth Gray. Orleans extended their lead to 7-3 in the fourth on a JJ Bleday two-run homer. Hyannis got one of those back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Pedro Pages single to right field that drove in a run. They used a Tommy Jew single and a groundout to put up two more runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5. The Firebirds scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, but Hyannis’ Seth Gray responded with a two-run homer to tie it, then a fielder’s choice to score Eric Rivera took the lead. Orleans tied it with a James Free II single to right to score one in the seventh. In the eight, the Harbor Hawks crossed two runs on a Tommy Jew triple to take the two-run lead, shortly proving to be the game winning hit.
