Bourne Braves Winter FanFest

Peter Gammons, Terry Francona and Brad Mills headline Braves Winter FanFest

CAPE COD, Mass. – The third annual Bourne Braves Winter FanFest will be held on Saturday, December 4th, 2004 at the Sea Crest Resort and Conference Center in North Falmouth. Peter Gammons, ESPN analyst and highly respected Major League Baseball journalist, will again emcee the event. Gammons has served as a Major League Baseball correspondent on ESPN since 1988. Besides working for ESPN, he contributes to the Boston Globe and Baseball America.

Joining him this year will be World Champion Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona and Red Sox bench coach, Brad Mills. Terry Francona joined the Red Sox in 2003 with a 3-year contract with a club option for 2007. Before coming to Boston, Francona managed four seasons in major leagues. He began the 2004 season as the 5th youngest active manager in the majors. Francona started his coaching career immediately upon the conclusion of his playing days in 1991. He has served as hitting instructor for the White Sox rookie level, managed Chicago's Single -A South Bend affiliate, skippered Double A Birmingham and earning Southern Manager of the Year and Baseball America Minor League Manager of the Year. Francona also managed the Arizona Fall League. He made the jump to the majors in 1996, when he served as third base coach for the Detroit Tigers then moved on to manage the Phillies from 1997-2000.

Brad Mills joined the Red Sox in January. Mills and Francona were college teammates and roommates at the University of Arizona, and then played together with the Expos. Mills served as Francona's first base coach with the Phillies. Mills served as the Cubs' Advance Scout and has also managed eleven seasons in the minor leagues with the Cubs, Rockies and Dodger organizations.

FanFest is their major fundraiser for the organization, thanks to the support of Peter Gammons. Despite the snowstorm, last year's event was a tremendous success providing a great night of fun, food and dance.

This year's event will not only include a great line up of guest speakers but will produce a tremendous amount of raffle and auction prizes for all to enjoy. A Boston Bruins autographed hockey stick, a Mark Mulder autographed baseball, two tickets to Radio City Christmas Spectacular, an original hand made Bourne Braves piece of jewelry and a golf/spa overnight package are just a few items included in the auction. The raffle will host prizes such as dinners for two, a commuter basket, crystal vase, framed canal photos and many more.

Tickets for the evening are $50.00 for adults and $27.00 for children 12 years and under. There is limited space for this event and reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Please contact Lucille Sorenti at 781-831-0893 or Lynn Ladetto at 508-888-5080 for tickets or email [email protected] or [email protected]. Credit card orders are accepted. Complete tables of 8 or 10 can be purchased. You may also mail your checks to Bourne Braves FanFest, PO Box 895, Monument Beach, MA 02553.
