Fuller Family Foundation Grant Supports Cape Cod League
BARNSTABLE -- The Cape Cod Baseball League announced today that it has received a major grant from the Fuller Family Foundation, a Florida-based philanthropic organization. Sandra and Victor Fuller, of the Foundation, have committed to support the Cape League with a $45,000 annual grant for five years with an option to extend for five additional years.
"The Cape League is an institution we want to support. There are a lot of people in the organization volunteering their time for a very wholesome activity. This is part of what America is all about - volunteering is so very important," commented Fuller in a recent phone interview.
The Cape Cod Baseball League is a non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers whose goal is to provide free, intergenerational, family entertainment by presenting summer collegiate baseball to residents and visitors alike. Recognized as the premier summer collegiate league in the United States, the Cape League had 198 alumni on Major League rosters this past season and 16 players taken in the first round of the Major League draft in June 2006 including the first six selections. The operating costs at the League level alone are more than $550,000 annually. When adding the annual costs of the ten franchises, this volunteer- led organization represents a $2,000,000 a year non-profit entity. In 2006, the League's fan base increased to 330,000 and had 17.5 million hits on its website from June through August. The Fuller Family Foundation multi-year grant makes a clear statement toward ensuring the future viability and advancement of this organization, according to Judy Walden Scarafile, President of the League
"We are most appreciative of the extraordinary generosity of the Fuller family. This grant, with its attendant commitment for five years will have a significant and positive impact on the Cape League. We are so grateful to the Fuller Foundation", said Scarafile.
"The Cape League is something that is special to participants, residents and visitors. It is a good stepping stone in life for many people," concluded Fuller.
