BOURNE, Mass. – Ryan Eades of the Bourne Braves has captured the B.F.C. Whitehouse Award as the Cape Cod Baseball League’s top pitcher for the 2011 season.

The 6-2 right-hander from Slidell, LA, who’s heading into his sophomore year at Louisiana State University, captured the award after a stellar season for the Braves.

He stood out among a strong group of pitchers who enjoyed dominant seasons in the Cape League. Included in that group were Harwich’s Taylor Rogers (Kentucky), Scott Firth (Clemson) of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and Brewster’s Tony Bucciferro (Michigan State).

Eades made six starts and one relief appearance for Bourne and was a key to the Braves finishing third in the Western Division of the Cape League’s regular season. Bourne was ousted in the opening round of the division playoffs by the Wareham Gatemen.

Along with a great regular season, he was the starting pitcher for the West squad in the Cape League All-Star game at Fenway Park.

He ended the regular-season campaign with a 3-0 record and a miniscule 0.84 ERA in 32.1 innings. He struck out 23 batters, walked only seven and allowed just 19 hits.

Eades was a 19th-round selection of the Colorado Rockies in the 2010 MLB Draft and is the fifth Bourne hurler and second in a row to be named the Pitcher of the Year in the Cape League. Last year Grayson Garvin captured the Whitehouse Award.

The award is based on a formula that longtime league statistician and volunteer John Wylde devised, incorporating 10 criteria, from innings to ERA to strikeouts-to-inning ratio.

The slender right-hander has a chance to become only the second pitcher in Cape League history to win back-to-back Whitehouse Awards should he return for the 2012 season. The only other person to perform that feat was another Bourne player, Bill Wissler, in 1990 and 1991.
