Cape Cod Baseball League
Is Looking for a Few Good Men
HYANNIS, Mass. – The Cape Cod Baseball League is looking for a few good men – not just any men, but those who grew up in or around Brockton and later played in the Cape League.
Anyone who falls into that category and would like to participate in a special event on June 28 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton as an honored guest of the Cape League should contact the league prior to June 1.
Those who do so will be invited to participate in pre-game ceremonies at the first “City of Champions Cape Cod Hall of Fame Classic,” an official, regular-season Cape League game matching the 2007 champions, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, and the 2007 runners-up, the Falmouth Commodores.
All gate receipts will benefit the new Cape League Hall of Fame, which is scheduled to open soon at the John F. Kennedy Museum on Main Street in Hyannis. And special activities before and during the game will generate an additional donation to the Jimmy Fund to aid in the battle against cancer in children.
Topping the growing list of participants is former Brockton High School catcher Peter Marciano, who will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Marciano played at both Brewster and Sagamore in the Cape League and is now a resident of White Cliffs in Plymouth, He is the younger brother of the late, undefeated (49-0) heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Rocky Marciano.
The contact person is Joe Sherman, CCBL special projects coordinator, who can be reached by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (508-775-4364).
