Scarafile honored with American Red Cross Leadership Award
HYANNIS ----- Long-time Cape Cod Baseball League president Judy Walden Scarafile was presented with the prestigious “American Red Cross Leadership Award” on March 4 at the Cape Cod and islands eighth annual “Heroes Breakfast” at the Hyannis Resort and Conference Center.

The award honored Scarafile’s numerous contributions to the Cape Cod community through the years.
“I am overwhelmed and humbled by this honor,” she said. “To listen at the breakfast to the heart-warming stories of the true heroes was amazing. To be included in a program that recognized Cpl. Nicholas Xiarhos, who we lost in 2009, is an honor I’ll never forget.”
Scarafile has served as Cape League president for 19 years and is responsible for funding the league’s initiatives as director of corporate development. She is the only female inducted into the CCBL Hall of Fame, which she and her husband, Peter Scarafile, helped establish at the JFK Museum on Hyannis Main Street.
She was also instrumental in creating and hosting the first 9/11 Memorial Service of Remembrance in Barnstable Village and has helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity both locally and on the Gulf Coast in Slidell, La.
She has volunteered for the Men’s Overnight of Hospitality at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Barnstable Village, helped put together a Salvation Army Bell Ringers team and, working in collaboration with Community Action Committee, spearheaded a “Turkey Drive” for needy local families on Thanksgiving. She is a Red Cross disaster-trained volunteer and a member of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).
While serving as a pharmacist in the Medical Reserve Corps, she spent two weeks in Katrina-ravaged Louisiana after the hurricane. She is a member of the Cape Cod Stranding (whales) Network and has been a trustee of the Yawkey Foundation since 2002. She is also a pharmacist who works per diem at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
