April 25 ‘Treasure Tally’ Appraisal Event
Aid Cape Baseball League Hall of Fame

SOUTH DENNIS, Mass. – The first “Treasure Tally,” a Cape Cod version of “Antiques Road Show,” will take place at the home office of Gaynor & Dent Auctions, 12 American Way, South Dennis, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. All proceeds will go to support the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Hall of Fame & Museum in Hyannis.

“We are thrilled to be able to team up with to support one of the oldest, most respected and well-known summer collegiate leagues in the country,” said Andrew Dent, partner in the Cape-based auction house. Dent and Scott Gaynor in the past have specialized in sports memorabilia, historical memorabilia and pop culture and have been among the top sellers on eBay. They are now branching out in all areas of the auction business.

This walk-in appraisal event is open to the public at a cost of $5 per item appraised up to three items, or a flat fee of $15 for four items up to an unlimited number.

“We strongly encourage the public to bring in any Cape Cod League-related memorabilia they may have,” says Gaynor. “The league is over 100 years old and vintage league items can be quite valuable.”

Gaynor noted that Dan Dunn, curator of the Cape League Hall of Fame Museum, will be on hand to offer his expertise on the value of such items. He will be joined by the Cape League’s special projects coordinator, Joe Sherman, who participated in the 1962 merger talks which led to the so-called “modern era” of the Cape League.

“In addition, we encourage folks to bring in treasures such as vintage sports memorabilia, autographs, baseball cards, pop culture items including rock and roll, old toys, coins, stamps, jewelry, comic books and vintage photos,” Dent added.

Gaynor & Dent’s first “Something for Everyone” Consignment Auction took place at the Radisson Hotel, 287 Iyanough Road, Hyannis, on Feb. 28, 2009. Nearly 100 people were present to see the sale of a single signed Babe Ruth baseball, Ted Williams’ personal fly-fishing equipment, a vintage Boston Red Sox ashtray and an original Stadium seat from Ebbetts Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Subsequent auctions have featured some of the finest sports memorabilia to be sold at public auction in New England in years, including a rare Ted Williams-signed decal bat, a 2004 team-signed Red Sox baseball, a game-used rookie David Ortiz Minnesota Twins jersey, Boston Bruins game-used jerseys and Shaquille O’Neal’s game-used warm-up pants.

Non-sports items such as Elvis Presley’s personal TV Guide, MoTown/The Temptations original scores and a rare Jimi Hendrix-owned picture were also featured.
