Edwards Presented CCBL's Lifetime Achievement Award

CCBL’S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

     WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. – Veteran executive Phil Edwards was honored by the Cape Cod Baseball League as 2009 recipient of the prestigious Fred Ebbett Lifetime Achievement Award at last Sunday’s First Pitch Brunch at the 99 Restaurant here.

Edwards received the award in recognition of his long-time volunteerism to the Cape League as both current vice president and former general manager of the Brewster Whitecaps.

     The award was accepted on Phil’s behalf by his sons Bruce and Scott as Phil watched from the packed audience with his wife Donna Scanzillo. Cape League Senior Vice President Jim Higgins made the presentation on behalf of the league’s Hall of Fame Committee.

     “Phil’s tireless dedication is reflected in his outstanding commitment to the Cape Cod Baseball League,“ said CCBL President Judy Walden Scarafile. “It’s an honor to recognize this extraordinary volunteer.”

     “Phil’s tireless dedication is reflected in his outstanding commitment to the Cape Cod Baseball League,“ said CCBL President Judy Walden Scarafile. “It’s an honor to recognize this extraordinary volunteer.” 

     For the past several years, Edwards served as chair of the annual CCBL All-Star Game, working closely with league officials and volunteers of the host franchises. He also served as a long-time member and chair of the Hall of Fame Committee and provided leadership and direction to the league’s safety and by-laws committees. 

     His many years of service with the Brewster franchise as volunteer, board member and general  manager culminated with the Whitecaps winning the CCBL championship in 2000.
