Kathryn Eident, news & public affairs director of Cape Cod Broadcasting, spoke with Cape Cod Baseball League president Judy Walden Scarafile and director of public relations and broadcasting John Garner for an upcoming edition of "Sunday Journal." The program will air Sunday, June 23on WKPE 103.9 at 5 a.m., WFCC 107.5 at 6 a.m., WQRC at 7 a.m., and WOCN 104.7 at 8 a.m.  Beginning next week, the segment also will run on www.capecod.com.

Among the topics discussed are the effect of the College World Series on the Cape League (Wareham, for example, has 11 players who are absent due to the CWS) and how it has given local talents the opportunity to display their abilities. On the other side of the coin, Garner pinpointed that the Cape League will soon reach a landmark 1,000 alumni all-time who have played in the major leagues. Currently, there are 253 players in the majors who spent time in the Cape League.

The interview touched on Cape League tradition but also some of the efforts made to bring more exposure to the league, including details on the Fox Sports package deal. Fox College Sports will broadcast several games this summer, including the Cape League All-Star game on Saturday, July 27 from Red Wilson Field (home of the Y-D Red Sox).  The game will begin at 4:35 p.m., and will be preceded by the home run hitting contest.

All this and so much more was covered in what felt like a lightning segment with Scarafile and Garner, and is expected to run in the last quarter of the "Sunday Journal."  Be sure to tune in to one of these Cape Cod radio stations this Sunday morning to get all the latest information on what is going on around the Cape Cod Baseball League.
