Braves 5, Kettleers 3: Doran Park was the site of the only Cape Cod Baseball League game that wasn't rained out Thursday night, so all eyes were on Cotuit and host Bourne in Game 1 of the best-of-three playoffs, presented by Rockland Trust. The Braves broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning and never looked back in a victory over the Kettleers.

Game 2 is Friday at 4 p.m. at Lowell Park in Cotuit, and is a must-win for the host Kettleers.

Cotuit took an early 1-0 lead when Jackson Glines (Michigan) scored on a sacrifice fly in the opening frame, and Kettleers southpaw starter Vince Fiori (South Carolina) kept the Braves scoreless through one inning.

Bourne answered with three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run triple to center by Richard Martin Jr. (Florida) that made it 3-1.

The Kettleers knotted it in the fourth after a two-out double by Logan Taylor (Texas A&M) brought in a run followed by a Glines RBI.

Bourne loaded the bases with back-to-back-to-back one-out singles, and Blake Allemand (Texas A&M) drove in the go-ahead run with a single to left. Mark Laird (LSU) scored the final run on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Gavin Collins (Mississippi St).

Travis Bergen (Kennesaw State) picked up the win for the Braves, allowing three runs on 10 hits over five innings and striking out four. Joey Strain (Winthrop) pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two to pick up the save.

Laird went 3-for-4 with a run scored, Allemand and Zander Wiel (Vanderbilt) each went 2-for-4, and Brian Serven (Arizona St.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jake Fincher (North Carolina State) went 2-for-3 for Cotuit while Glines, Taylor and Ian Rice (Chipola) each finished 2-for-5.
