Cape League Schedule Finalized For 2006

CAPE COD, Mass. – The CCBL Executive Committee has announced that the official Cape Cod Baseball League schedule has been finalized for 2006. 
     The regular season begins Thursday, June 15 with a five-game slate: Cotuit at Bourne, Orleans at Brewster, Falmouth at Chatham, Yarmouth-Dennis at Hyannis, and Harwich at Wareham.
     The CCBL All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, July 29 at Y-D’s Red Wilson Field. The regular season ends Sunday, August 6, with divisional playoffs beginning Tuesday, August 8. The season climaxes with the Cape League series August 10 or 11-13.
     Schedule committee members are Bill Bussiere, Assistant GM of the Hyannis Mets; Mike Carrier, GM of the Bourne Braves; Bob Prew of the Harwich Mariners; and John Wylde, President/GM of the Wareham Gatemen. The official schedule is available on www.capecodbaseball.org.

CAPE.COM Selected As Internet Broadcast Provider
    Local company Cape.Com of Mashpee has been selected as official Internet broadcast provider for the Cape Cod Baseball League for the 2006 season. 
     The teams will have the option to utilize these additional features: high-speed DSL Internet access and voice services for each team if available; voice streaming via the web and over traditional phone lines of all league games; and hosting of team and league Web sites.
     Additional features include recorded voicemail messages used for rainouts and previous game scores. 
     “We are pleased to announce Cape.Com as our new Internet provider,” said CCBL President Judy Walden Scarafile. “Not only are they able to provide excellent service at an affordable price, but they are a local company able to bring several new technological advances to the Cape League.”

Major League Scout Days Announced
    The Cape League will once again schedule pre-game player workouts for the major league scouts during a six-day period known as Scouts Days. They will take place at the following games: Harwich at Cotuit, July 22; Y-D at Bourne, July 23; Wareham at Y-D, July 25; Falmouth at Cotuit, July 26; Brewster at Harwich, July 27; and Orleans at Chatham, July 28. Workout drills include batting practice, fielding practice, and short-distance sprints.

CCBL Public Relations Staff Announced
    CCBL President Judy Walden Scarafile has announced the following re-appointments in the public relations department for 2006: Director of Public Relations/ Broadcasting – John Garner, Jr.; Director of Communications – Jim McGonigle; Director of Publications – Lou Barnicle; Director of Memorabilia – Dan Dunn ; Web Site Editor – Will Bussiere; Web Master – Steve Wilson.

CCBL Meeting Hotel – Holiday Inn-Hyannis
    The official meeting place for the Cape League for the past several years – the Ramada Inn in Hyannis – has changed and will become the new Holiday Inn-Hyannis. The Assistant Director of Sales at the new Holiday Inn-Hyannis, Jackie Doran, is the league's main contact. The property is under extensive renovation and every effort has been made to accommodate the sophisticated needs of today's traveler. The furniture and soft goods have been chosen for their elegance and reflect the quality that meeting planners and executives expect. Around The Horn
     A contingent of league and team officials will head to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Convention on January 5-8 at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. The league will again sponsor a booth at the convention’s trade show.
     Several league officers, team officials, and media are expected to attend the popular Boston Baseball Writers Dinner January 12. Current Red Sox catcher and captain Jason Varitek (Hyannis '91/'93) and new Sox third baseman Mike Lowell (Chatham '94) will receive their 2005 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards.
     The CCBL will sponsor a booth at the Mohegan Sun World Baseball Coaches' Convention in Uncasville, Conn., on January 12-14. Presenters include Joe Girardi, Dwight Evans, Harold Reynolds, Brian Butterfield, Don Cooper, Steve Ontiveros, Mike Barnett, George Poulis, Karl Kuehl, Rod Delmonico and Turtle Thomas, Robbie Wine, and Kevin O'Sullivan. 
     The next CCBL Executive Committee meeting is set for Monday, Jan. 9 at Shepley Wood Products in the Marvin Showroom with Jan 18th as a backup date.
     The Executive Committee will return to Shepley for another meeting Feb. 1.
     Officers and volunteers from the Cape League will comprise a telethon team on Feb. 19 during the final 9-10 p.m. hour in the March of Dimes Telerama at Cape Cod Community College. Deputy Commissioner Dick Sullivan will again serve as master of ceremonies. 
     Former CCBL public relations intern T.J. Lasita has accepted a public relations internship with the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins in the Pacific Coast League, at the baseball winter meetings in Dallas. Lasita served an internship with the Cincinnati Reds last summer after spending the 2004 season on the Cape. “The experience in the Cape Cod Baseball League has certainly opened many doors in the advancement of my career in baseball,” wrote Lasita. “With that, I wanted to thank you for everything you did. The summer of '04 remains the best of my life, an experience I will never forget.”
