End of Season Report

Our 2006 Cape Cod Baseball League season ended in historic fashion. After enduring 32 postponements due to inclement weather and playing 8 doubleheaders to help make up those games, our playoffs enjoyed outstanding weather and record-breaking crowds.

The Wareham Gatemen swept past the Cotuit Kettleers in two straight games in the Western Division to advance to the championship series against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox who prevailed over the determined Brewster Whitecaps in a three game series in the Eastern Division.

The championship series was tied at one game apiece when the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox hosted the Wareham Gatemen in the Championship game. Sun-drenched Red Wilson Field was the scene for this historic tilt as over 8,200 fans packed the ballpark for the final game of the season. The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox won the championship game 5-1 for their second league championship in the last three years. After the Red-Sox received the Arnold Mycock trophy emblematic of their championship, reliever David Robertson was awarded the MVP of the CCBL playoffs as he recorded saves in all four Y-D playoff wins and did not allow a hit in any of those games. The Alabama right-hander could not have written a better script.

The planning has already begun for the 2007 as CCBL officials along with franchise management brainstorm ideas to constantly improve what the CCBL is all about and how we do it. We continue to strive to provide wholesome family entertainment with the best players in the country committing to play in this exceptional league. Our relationship with the NCAA, the ECAC and Major League Baseball has never been better.

The goals we all collectively share include properly preparing young men for a career in professional baseball while ensuring affordable baseball games for our loyal fans of all ages. We are extremely proud to continually achieve this objective and are most appreciative of the overwhelming support and compliments we receive from many of our summer visitors.

We pledge to do it all again next year and we have never been more aware that the greatest summer collegiate baseball league in the country could not be as successful as we are without our incredible and unselfish volunteers and our extraordinary and loyal fan base. YOU are the reason we, collectively, are so successful and we could not be more grateful. THANK YOU for helping us to make the Cape Cod Baseball League so special. Next year is our 123rd year and we, like you, can’t wait until June 2007. Best wishes for a wonderful off-season!
