Commissioner's Corner

End of Season Report

What a spectacular summer of baseball on Cape Cod in 2007! The more things change, the more they stay the same. The big change was the weather that was a major improvement over 2006 when we were faced with 32 postponements and 8 doubleheaders.

This year, we had only 13 cancellations and no doubleheaders. The item that stayed the same was the championship crowning of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox for the second year in a row and third in the last four seasons. This talented group of young men led from start to finish and suffered only 12 losses throughout the entire summer. They won the Eastern Division going away from second place Chatham and swept through the playoffs undefeated, culminating in a two game championship series win over the classy Falmouth Commodores. Head Coach Scott Pickler and General Manager Jim Martin once again assembled a team that developed extraordinary chemistry and performed superbly between the lines. Congratulations to a very classy organization that deserved many accolades.

Our mid-season All-Star Classic in July at Spillane Field in Wareham was an exceptionally well-planned event which not only culminated in a spectacular day, but it proved to the final piece in awarding the extraordinary Wareham Gatemen organization with the coveted Commissioner’s Cup which recognizes professionalism and unparalleled integrity on and off the field. These dedicated volunteers were simply superb!

League officials and franchise administrators were once again pleasantly surprised and humbled by the record-breaking crowds that showed up night after night at our ballparks. The popularity and dedication of our volunteers and spectators continues to fuel our burning desire to constantly improve what we do. We can not accurately express how pleased and honored we are to provide these high-caliber games to such loyal fans, friends, family and newcomers and June of 2008 can not get here soon enough for all of us. Best wishes for a restful yet rapid winter season and we look forward to seeing you all again for our 2008 season. Thanks for everything that YOU do to make this such a special league. WE appreciate it immensely!
