     A recent injury to the left ring finger of Jason Kipnis (Cotuit, 2008) has led the Cleveland Indians second baseman to undergo surgery.

      Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame member Arthur L. Quirk Jr. (Orleans, 1958; class of 2009), a former pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Senators, died Nov. 22 at his home in Stonington, Conn.

      Cape League Hall of Famer Andrew Miller (Chatham, 2004-05; class of 2012) became the highest paid non-closing relief pitcher in baseball history Friday.

     For the first time this season, Player of the Week awards in both the American and National leagues went to former Cape Cod Baseball League players.

     WAREHAM, Mass. - The Cape Cod Baseball League is among the nation's premier summer leagues for college baseball players. Every year an opportunity to play in the Cape League is extended to unsigned collegiate players from across the country through the Frank Finn Invitational Tryout.

     Two 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League rivals have been honored by Major League Baseball for their on-field performances in May. 

     Admittedly nervous, Alex Hassan nevertheless was right at home Sunday as he made his major league debut at Fenway Park and collected his first career base hit in the Boston Red Sox’s 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

     A.J. Pollock (Falmouth, 2008), the Cape Cod Baseball League’s 2008 Pat Sorenti Most Valuable Player Award winner, will be lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks for an indefinite period after suffering a broken right hand when hit by a pitch in Saturday night’s 5-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. 

     HYANNIS - The Cape Cod Baseball League is pleased to announce the Cape Codder Resort and Spa has just been named the official meeting place for the league. 

     Philadelphia rookie David Buchanan (Brewster, 2010) made his Major League Baseball debut Saturday and it lasted longer than his entire Cape Cod Baseball League career.

     When Toronto lefty Rob Rasmussen (Orleans, 2008-09) retired Boston slugger David Ortiz on Tuesday night, it was the major league debut – but not the Fenway Park debut – for the former Orleans standout. 

      Cleveland rookie left-hander Kyle Crockett (Orleans, 2012) became the first member of baseball’s 2013 draft class to make it to the major leagues.

     Right-handed pitcher David Aardsma (Falmouth, 2002) has decided to stay in Memphis.

     Kolten Wong is in St. Louis and David Aardsma is in limbo.

     The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and manager Scott Pickler have formally announced three additions to the team’s coaching staff for the 2014 season.

     Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters (Orleans, 2006) got good news this week – he will not have to undergo Tommy John surgery on his ailing right (throwing) elbow.

      Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Famer David Aardsma (class of 2010) may be back in the big leagues by next week.

     Rookie right-hander Marcus Stroman (Orleans, 2010/11) became the 11th former Cape Cod League player to make his major league debut this spring.

     C.J. Cron (Cotuit, 2010), the Los Angeles Angels’ first-round draft choice in 2011, made his major league debut a memorable one Saturday as he collected three hits in five at-bats to help the Angels beat the Texas Rangers 5-3.

     Two members of the 2012 Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox pitching staff are off to good starts in the minor leagues.

     Upon their arrival, Wong and Robinson found they were not the only Memphis players who had spent time in the Cape League.

     The St. Louis Cardinals haven’t given up on former first-round draft choice Kolten Wong (Orleans, 2010). But they haven’t exactly given him a vote of confidence either.

     Charlie Blackmon (Cotuit, 2006) would fit in nicely with the Boston Red Sox.

     Former Boston Red Sox bullpen stalwart Daniel Bard (Wareham, 2005) has signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers.

     Former Cape Cod Baseball League batting champion Lance Berkman (Wareham, 1996) is calling it quits.

Carlos Pena (Harwich, 1996; Wareham, 1997) has played for eight teams in a 13-season big league career, along the way collecting 1,138 hits, 285 home runs and 816 RBIs, winning a Gold Glove (2008) and a Silver Slugger (2007) and playing in the 2009 All-Star Game.

     Despite a last-place finish in 2013, the Chicago White Sox showed confidence in manager Robin Ventura on Friday by rewarding him with a multiyear contract extension. Ventura’s original deal would have expired at the end of the 2014 season.

Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame pitcher David Aardsma (Falmouth, 2002; HOF class of 2010) is back in baseball.

     The American Baseball Coaches Association has selected Cotuit Kettleers field manager Mike Roberts of the Cape Cod Baseball League as one of its inductees into its Hall of Fame Class for 2015.

     When John Farrell attended the 2013 Hot Stove event, put on by the Falmouth Commodores, he spent much of the evening fielding questions about how he would turn the Boston Red Sox around as their newly appointed manager. 

     Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters (Orleans, 2005) and Boston Red Sox pitcher Andrew Miller (Chatham, 2004-05) have not yet reached agreement with their respective teams on new contracts for 2014, and arbitration hearings are looming next month if they fail to do so.

     For the second consecutive season, the Falmouth Commodores belted a grand slam with their Hot Stove Panel Fund-Raiser at the Sea Crest Motel on Thursday. 

     Chris Coghlan (Chatham, 2005), a former Cape Cod Baseball League batting champion and the National League’s 2009 Rookie of the Year, has signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs with an invitation to spring training.

      Twenty-four former Cape Cod Baseball League players, including two CCBL Hall of Famers, are among the 146 players who filed for arbitration on Tuesday under the system agreed to by Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association.

     With Frank Thomas about to become the third Cape Cod Baseball League alumnus to take his place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, it’s interesting to note that he was a teammate of  Carlton Fisk's for four seasons – 1990-93 – with the Chicago White Sox.  

     Slugging Frank “Big Hurt” Thomas became just the third Cape Cod Baseball League alumnus voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, joining Harold “Pie” Traynor (Falmouth, 1919) and Carlton Fisk (Orleans, 1966).

     It’s been a challenging offseason for fans who enjoy following the big league careers of their favorite Cape Cod Baseball League graduates. 

     Another former Cape Cod Baseball League player will head to Korea in an effort to kick-start his stalled Major League Baseball career. 

     Former Harwich Mariners and MIT baseball coach Fran O'Brien has been named recipient of the Ethics in Coaching Award by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
