07/27/2011 8:23 AM - BOSTON -- Friday's Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game at Fenway Park has not escaped notice by the Governor of the Commonwealth.

In a letter released today, Gov. Deval Patrick welcomed fans and participants to the 2011 game, calling the Cape League "a source of entertainment for generations" and nothing that "many of the most notable and accomplished players in Major League Baseball history got their start on Cape Cod."

The Governor also recognized what he called "their true spirit of sportsmanship on and off the field" by applauding the league's "longstanding commitment to bettering Cape Cod's communities through volunteer work.

"I am proud and grateful for the role you play enhancing the quality of life in the Commonwealth," Patrick wrote.

He noted that the game is dedicated to the memory of Christina-Taylor Green, "a bright, civically-minded young girl who tragically lost her life in the Arizona shooting earlier this year," extending a special welcome to her family. "As we honor Christina," Patrick wrote, "let us not forget her spirit."

The Jordan's Furniture Cape League All-Star Game will be played Friday, July 29, at Fenway Park, starting at 7 p.m. All tickets are general admission and may be purchased at any Cape League ball park for $10 each until game day, when the price will be $12 at the gate. The game can be heard on Cape Cod's NPR station, WCAI, and will be televised nationally by Comcast SportsNet.
