HYANNIS, Mass. -- The new Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame and Museum will open its doors to the public on Tuesday, July 22. The Museum is located in “The Dugout,” which is the lower level of the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum at 397 Main St.

Thanks to three major sponsors -- Curry College, TD Banknorth, and Bank of America -- the near-$80,000 project has been in the works since last fall. The actual build-out of the two rooms in the basement of the historic building began in February.

“We are very excited about the new Hall of Fame and its new location, right in the heart of Cape Cod and the heart of Main Street, Hyannis, said Cape League President Judy Walden Scarafile. “We have had a handful of incredible volunteers working very hard to create this new museum and have it ready to open this summer. It is really something!”

The Hall of Fame, which began in 2001 has a total of 81 members who were inducted in eight classes, starting in 2000. Official home of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony is the Chatham Bars Inn, where the next induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The Hall of Fame and Museum features the plaques of all inductees plus memorabilia from the 10 teams in the league. There are several old photos and the original charter of the Cape League. Autographed bats and baseballs with corresponding Major League cards are displayed in cases and show the direct connection between the Cape League and professional baseball.

A state of the art, wide-screen video system will feature various films about the League, including the award-winning Touching the Game and Warner Bros.’ Summer Catch. One can sit in a “box seat” from Fenway Park and watch the movies and other documentaries.

“This partnership with the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce and the JFK Hyannis Museum is a natural marriage and we are very happy with the results,” said Commissioner and Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Paul Galop. “The planning and implementation of this project has gone on for more than a year.”

Hours of operation will correspond with those of the JFK Hyannis Museum -- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Admission to the CCBL Hall of Fame and Museum will be free through the remainder of July.
