CHATHAM, Mass. - Thomas P. Gay will be presented with the Dick Sullivan Executive of the Year Award during the brunch prior to the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame induction ceremony Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Chatham Bars Inn.
Gay has served as president and general manager of the Wareham Gatemen since October 2009. Prior to joining the Gatemen organization as assistant GM in 2006, Gay was a coach and president of the Gateway Babe Ruth League and commissioner of the South Coast Baseball Alliance.
The Dick Sullivan Executive of the Year Award was first given in 2006 for distinguished service, which includes franchise and/or league management participation, outstanding leadership qualities enhancing the franchise and/or league reputation and success, professional behavior, timeliness of required reporting mechanisms, proactive guidance for student-athletes and overall performance that exceeds expectations by going above-and-beyond the call of duty.
This award is named after current CCBL Deputy Commissioner Dick Sullivan of Chatham, who’s served the CCBL with distinction in various capacities including past commissioner, past president and past vice-president.
A native of Taunton, Mass., he’s a graduate of Salem State College and Suffolk University Law School. He’s a partner in the law firm of Gay & Gay, PC in Taunton, where he’s practiced law for over 35 years. He was recipient of the 2008 Massachusetts Bar Association Community Service
Award, recognizing his efforts on behalf of youth in the Wareham/Marion communities.
Tom and his wife Sheri Gay began their relationship with the Cape Cod Baseball League in 1997 as a host family, when their children, Lindsey and Tommy, were 13 and 11. Under their reign, the Gatemen have appeared in the CCBL playoffs the last four years, culminating with the 2012 CCBL Championship this past August in a game which has been described as one of the most exciting playoff games ever played on the Cape.
