Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox Mourn
Loss of former President Sandi Hoyt

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. -- The Cape Cod Baseball League is mourning the loss of a longtime friend and colleague, Yarmouth-Dennis volunteer Sandi Hoyt, who died on Saturday, Oct. 25, at her retirement home in Fort Myers, Fla. She was 63.

Hoyt was a familiar face of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox organization, for which she worked tirelessly for the past 19 years. She served as president of the Red Sox for five years and was a moving force behind many of the renovations at Red Wilson Field. During her tenure, the field’s outfield fencing, which had been standing since 1958, was replaced, a new scoreboard was installed and the spacious concession stand behind home plate was constructed.

Hoyt could be found in the concession stand she helped build and manage at virtually every Y-D home game, cooking hot dogs or offering a friendly word to her countless visitors.

“Sandi was a joy to work with,” said fellow Y-D volunteer Nadine Mayo, who worked shoulder-to-shoulder with her for 10 years, “She was truly an amazing person. The whole Y-D community is saddened.”

Y-D General Manager Jim Martin praised both her character and her importance to the organization. “Every game went without a hitch” when she was involved, he said. “She was instrumental and dedicated to everything we did here. We’re going to miss her.”

Along with her major contributions to the Red Sox, Hoyt was also a legendary field hockey coach at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. In 14 years as head coach, her teams won nine league championships and played in the post-season 12 times, finishing four times as runner-up in the Division 1 South Sectional tournament.

The Red Sox plan to create a memorial to Hoyt, which will be on permanent display at Red Wilson Field.
