HARWICH ----- Credit his gritty, instinctual play, to being the player his teammates could count on in a tough situation, or to his military training, but Clint Moore (ARMY) was a logical choice to receive this year’s Manny Robello 10th Player award.

    The award is presented each year to the player who has done more than the team has asked. As Commissioner Paul Galop noted while presenting the award, even Manny Robello, a longtime volunteer with the Cotuit Kettleers and the Cape League, would be hard-pressed to find a better candidate for the honor.

     A shortstop for the Army Black Knights, Moore came to the Cape as a middle infielder for the Harwich Mariners and immediately began making an impact. Though not a flashy player, his work ethic and attitude towards the game, as well as his ability to step into whatever role the team needed, caught the attention of fans, players and media. He batted .270, with 17 RBI, 16 runs and 27 hits, earning a spot in the starting lineup at the All-Star Game.

     He went above and beyond, serving as a relief pitcher several times. He even started a game, pitching six innings against Bourne on Aug. 1 when Harwich was struggling to keep fresh arms in a jam-packed schedule. 

     Moore’s attitude on and off the field also earned him Harwich’s team 10th man award. 

     “He’s just a top notch kid,” Harwich assistant coach Marc Thibeault said. “He’s a kid that every time you see his name in the lineup or you see him come up in his spot, you root for him.”

  “As a player and as a teammate, he shows up to the park every day and just does a positive thing for his team,” Harwich assistant coach Ryan Parker said. “It’s good to see the league celebrate a kid of such high character qualities as Clint.”

     “I think that there really couldn’t be a more model citizen, player and student athlete in our league. To see him get that recognition from both our organization and see that the entire league recognizes it is important.” 

     Moore was thrilled to be honored.

     “There are so many great players here, so many great people . . . to get nominated for it and then to receive it. I feel very humbled,” he said.
