BOURNE -- In a wild contest that saw the two Western Division finalists tied after eight innings, Wareham pulled out a thrilling 8-6 win Tuesday night on the strength of Mott Hyde's second big hit of the game, a two-run homer in the top of the ninth.

The victory gives the Gatemen a two-game sweep and a ticket to the Cape League's best-of-three championship finals against Yarmouth-Dennis, starting today at 4 p.m. at Y-D's Red Wilson Field.

Hyde also had a clutch two-run triple in the fourth inning, and his Georgia Tech teammate, Daniel Palka, scored on both thundering hits, drawing a walk before Hyde's decisive homer in the ninth.

The Braves, who lost 5-3 in the opener, took a two-run lead in this one as L.J. Mazzilli (UConn) had an RBI single in the first and the Braves tacked on a run in the second on an error.

Hyde's two-run triple and an RBI single by Dustin DeMuth (Indiana) put the Gatemen in front 3-2 in the fourth. Back came the Braves as Jack Reinheimer singled home two runs in the bottom of the fourth, making it 4-3 for the home club.

Wareham's Tyler Horan (Virginia Tech) kept the see-saw story line alive, clocking a two-run homer to left and making it 5-4 for the Gatemen. It was 6-4 when Mazzilli delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to tie it.

Colby Suggs (Arkansas) finally silenced the tenacious Braves in the bottom of the ninth to get the win.
