This year’s Richard (Dick) Sullivan Award goes to Michele Pavlu, in grateful recognition of her irreplaceable contribution to the Cape Cod Baseball League’s safe return to the ballfields in 2021. The award was presented at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club on November 21.

Head athletic trainer for Nauset High School since 2003, Michele Pavlu began her career at the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2006. She found her home with the Orleans Firebirds in 2010 and became the League’s coordinator of athletic trainers and software in 2017. In the face of our country’s ongoing health crisis, Michele worked diligently to come up with the Covid-19 protocols that enabled the Cape League to return to play for its 2021 season. With the help of Dr. Donald O’Malley, Laura Murphy, Nicolette Branson, and in partnership with Quest Diagnostics, the Cape Cod Baseball League was able to keep its players and fans as safe as possible during the pandemic. Among 488 players, there was just one positive COVID case. Michele’s consummate professionalism has set the standard for safe COVID-19 protocols within amateur sports leagues in the United States.
