Farnham Unsung Hero Award on an annual basis. It is only presented when there is a truly deserving candidate.
This year, that honor is being bestowed to an integral member of the Cape Cod Baseball League hierarchy, Kim Wolfe, the league’s secretary.
But, she is so much more than that – She is a volunteer of major proportions.
Wolfe started volunteering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters where she was a "big sister" for 13 years, mentoring four "little sisters" during that time.
As if that wasn’t enough, she took a position on the BB/BS board, and for the next 26 years, she served in a variety of roles. She has run fundraising bowl-a-thons and auctions, and assisted with golf tournaments and other events..
She moved to the Cape from Westboro and sought ways to meet people, so volunteering seemed like a step in the right direction. She remembers being inspired by the director of the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund when they discussed volunteering. The words, "Why do I volunteer? I hate to dust” struck home with Wolfe, who began an odyssey that has benefitted both Kim and Cape Cod for over 25 years.
Her volunteering eventually led her to the Hyannis franchise of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where she has been the team’s secretary for over a decade. She has housed players during the season and learned the game of baseball from those who stayed in her home. She has been involved in the league for almost the same length of time as with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.
If there is a function where help is needed, Wolfe is in the trenches pitching in to make sure everything runs well. She also has helped work on field renovations at McKeon Park, home of the Harbor Hawks, and can be found in bleachers for most home games.
Judy Walden Scarafile, president of the Cape League, said of Wolfe, “Kim is always giving of herself. She doesn't just show up and sit behind a desk, She is in the trenches working at set-up, clean-up and all the work in between."
Wolfe is the second member of the Hyannis organization to be honored by the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce. Team vice president Peter Scarafile was honored with the John F. Kennedy Junior Community Service Award in 2008.  Bill Bussiere was selected as General Manager of the year in leading the Hyannis Harbor Hawks to a Division Championship in 2011 Cape Cod Package Store in Centerville underwent a one-year renovation program where the store size was increased and many new programs and products were added.
