Commissioner's Column: Pre-Season Report
06/16/2004 10:56 AM
June has arrived and with it the arrival of our 120th season in the Cape Cod Baseball League. We welcome new GM Michael Carrier of the Bourne Braves, a long-time volunteer who takes over the helm of baseball operations in Bourne. Cotuit has a new Field Manager in Mike Roberts who is no stranger to the CCBL as he has had earlier stints in Wareham in a similar role. Hyannis boasts a new Field Manager in Greg King who has a past history in the Cape League as a player and coach in Harwich as well as an assistant coach previously in Cotuit.
Chatham, Harwich and Cotuit all have constructed new press boxes during the off-season and they all add significant flair and professionalism to those ballparks.
This year’s All-Star Game will be held at Eldredge Park in Orleans on July 24th at 6PM. The game is preceded by our annual Home Run Hitting Contest as well as autograph sessions. Eldredge Park was recently named the most beautiful ballpark in the United States for summer baseball by the highly respected Baseball America magazine. This was the second time that Eldredge Park has garnered this award. Congratulations to the Orleans Cardinals! Be sure to show up early with your lawn chairs and blankets as a sell-out crowd of over 7,500 are expected.
On behalf of the Cape Cod Baseball League Officers, Directors, Executive Committee Members and all 10 franchises, thanks for your continued support and encouragement as we strive to continue the highest level of integrity in what is widely accepted as the greatest collegiate summer baseball league in the country. We could not provide such a successful and positive sports environment without the unparalleled dedication of our incredible volunteers. From all of us to all of you, thanks for supporting your favorite team and we’ll see you at the ballpark. Batter up!
