HYANNIS---- The Harbor Hawks had a tough summer, with unexpected losses of players hurting their chances and resulting in a last-place finish in the West Division.

South Carolina stars Jackie Bradley Jr. and Matt Price couldn’t make it to the Cape due to the College World Series, leaving the Harbor Hawks strapped for replacements. Fortunately, outfielderJohn Ruettiger (Arizona State) and right-hander Tyler Mizenko (Winthrop) were here to help. Ruettiger won the league batting title, hitting .369, while Mizenko went 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA.

Ruettiger, infielder Cam Seitzer (Oklahoma) and Casey McElroy (Auburn) all were named to the All-Star team. Seitzer averaged .253 with 16 RBI, while McElroy hit .269 with three home runs and 25 RBI.

It was a tough season, but the Harbor Hawks didn’t go home completely empty-handed, beating the Falmouth Commodores at the annual Martha’s Vineyard game. It’s the only league game, excluding playoffs, when teams are competing for a trophy. A great tradition, it’s a time when previous winners return every year to defend their crown.
