7/1 Cape Cod Baseball League Wrap Up

Chatham (8-7-2): 3 at Cotuit (9-8): 4

It took eleven innings to decide a winner on Sunday evening in Cotuit. After a three run fifth inning for Cotuit. Jonathan Robertson had a two RBI single along with an RBI single from Zachary Biermann. Chatham answered quickly with two runs of their own in the next frame, and ended up tying it up 3-3 with a run in the ninth inning. After a few extra innings of baseball, Cotuit’s Beau Brundage had enough, and lifted the Kettleers past the Anglers with a solo walk off home run.

Hyannis (11-6-1): 2 at Harwich (9-9-1): 1

Hyannis was able to jump ahead 2-0 after four innings in Harwich thanks to an RBI single from Davis Wendzel in the third and another from Brady Lindsly in the fourth. Harwich was able to cross a run in the fifth inning off a Brad Debo single. After this, both teams were able to pitch incredible games as a collective for their respective clubs and shut it down. After the fifth inning of this game, the teams both combined for three hits and two walks.

The difference came in the fourth inning when Y-D answered a Gatemen run in the prior inning with two Red Sox crossing the plate to take a 2-1 lead. After immediately giving up three runs in the next frame, Y-D answered with their own three in the fifth inning. Both teams scored a run a piece in the eighth inning, and a scoreless ninth inning ended the game and sent the Red Sox home in winning fashion.

Brewster (4-13-2): 5 at Falmouth (7-10): 4

Falmouth struck early in the bottom of the first inning on a Kyle Stowers single. After giving up a pair of runs to Brewster, Falmouth tied it back up 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Another in the bottom of the sixth took the lead, but a quick response from the Whitecaps was in order. The Commodores scored another in the eighth, making it 4-3 Falmouth. Brewster’s Hunter Bishop came up clutch in the top of the ninth, scoring two on a single to right field to make it 5-4. Conor Grammes was able to shut it down in the bottom of the ninth to seal the deal.

Bourne (9-8-1): 6 at Orleans (6-11-1): 7

Bourne was up 3-2 heading into the sixth after a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. It was good enough to lead Orleans after a four run fourth for the Firebirds. After the Braves scored two runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a fielder’s choice and a ground rule double off of Tyler Fitzgerald’s bat, Orleans was able to respond with five of their own. Thanks to two hits, including a two RBI base knock from Pat DeMarco and a one run single from Spencer Steer. Another two runs were scored due to an error by the Bourne third baseman. This was good for a 7-5 lead. Bourne was able to cross a run in the ninth to make it 7-6, but came up short to tie the game.
