Week 6: July 15-21 Cape League Standouts

The All-Star Game stole the show this week, but there were many great performances that deserve some attention. Here are the standout performances for week six.

Orleans Firebirds:

*Jared Shuster SP: The junior southpaw from Wake Forest had another quality start on July 16 against the Cotuit Kettler’s. Shuster tossed five shutout innings giving up only three hits and struck out five.


*Jake Eder SP: The junior southpaw from Vanderbilt recorded his first win of the season on July 19th against the Bourne Braves. Eder tossed five shutout innings giving up only two hits and struck out six.
Zach Britton C/OF: The junior from Louisville had a good week. Britton went four for 12, with two runs, one home run, and one run batted in.


*Shay Whitcomb SS/2B: The middle infielder from the University of California San Diego had another good week. Whitcomb went four for 11, with two doubles, one home run, and one run batted in.

Chatham Anglers

*Jeremy Wu-Yelland LHP: The junior southpaw from Hawaii had two quality outings out of the bullpen this week. Wu-Yelland recorded his first win of the season tossing four shutout innings, with one hit, one walk, and struck out six.


*Zarion Sharpe SP: The six-foot-five senior from UNCW had another quality start on July 15th against the Brewster Whitecaps. Sharpe pitched five innings giving up two runs, one earned run, four hits, one walk, and stuck out five.


*Austin Vernon RHP: The six-foot-seven reliever from North Carolina Central U recorded his third win of the season on July 20th against the Harwich Mariners. Vernon tossed two perfect innings, with three strikeouts. Vernon now has a 3.56 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched, and 26 strikeouts.


Brewster Whitecaps

*Sean Fisher LHP: The junior from Maryland College Park recorded his third save of the season on July 19th against the Chatham Anglers. Fisher pitched three and one-third innings giving up two hits, one walk, and struck out four. Fisher now has a 1.55 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched, with eight strikeouts.


*Tyler Follis RHP: The senior from Louisiana Tech recorded his first win of the season. Follis pitched five and two-thirds innings giving up one earned run, five hits, one walk, and struck out five.


*Christian Molfetta C/IF: The senior from Stanford had a good week. Molfetta went five for eight, with four runs, one run batted in, and one walk. Molfetta is now batting .300 in 40 at-bats, with two doubles, two home runs, 12 runs batted in, and seven walks.

Harwich Mariners:

*Tommy Vail LHP: The junior lefty from Notre Dame recorded his first win of the season on July 16th against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Vail pitched three and two-thirds innings giving up one earned run, one hit, one walk, and struck out eight.


*Jordan Butler SP: The junior lefty starter from Florida had another quality outing on July 15th against the Y-D Red Sox. Butler pitched six innings giving up one earned run, seven hits, two walks, and struck out four.


*Dylan Neuse IF/OF: The junior from Texas Tech had a good week. Neuse went five for 16, with three runs, two home runs, six runs batted in, one walk, and two stolen bases. Neuse’s standout performance was on July 19th against the Y-D Red Sox going three for four, with two runs, two home runs, and five runs batted in.

Y-D Red Sox:  

*Oscar Carvajal RHP: The junior from Fresno State had two good outings out of the bullpen. Carvajal recorded one win, with four shutout innings giving up only two hits while striking out seven in four innings pitched.


*Bradlee Beesly CF/OF: The senior from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo had a good week. Beesley went seven for twenty, with six runs, one double, one home run, two runs batted in, and two walks. Beesly's standout performance was on July 16th against the Bourne Braves going three for four, with three runs, one run batted in, and one walk.


*Jack Leftwich SP: The sophomore starter from Florida had a quality outing on July 16th in a win against the Bourne Braves. Leftwich pitched five innings giving up one earned run, two hits, one walk, and struck out four.


*Taylor Dollard RHP: The sophomore from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo had two quality outings out of the bullpen. Dollard recorded his fifth save of the season on July 15th against the Harwich Mariners throwing one shutout innings while striking out two. Dollard recorded his second win of the season on July 20th against the Brewster Whitecaps throwing one shutout innings while striking out one. Dollard now has a 1.84 ERA, in 14. 2 innings pitched.


Bourne Braves

*Nick Dombkowski SP: The junior from Hartford had his best start on July 17th against the Y-D Red Sox. Dombkowski recorded the win pitching five perfect innings while striking out seven.


*Jimmy Glowenke SS/3B: The sophomore from Dallas Baptist U had a good week. Glowenke went eight for 16, with one run, two doubles, one home run, and four runs batted in. Glowenkes standout performance was on July 17th against the Y-D Red Sox going three for three, with one run, one home run, and three runs batted in.


*Zavier Warren IF/C: The junior from Central Michigan U had another quality week. Warren went four for 16, with four runs, one double, one home run, two runs batted in, and three walks. Warren's standout performance was on July 16th against the Y-D Red Sox going two for four, with one run, one home run, and one run batted in.


*Kieran Shaw CL: The senior from Harvard had two quality outings out of the bullpen. Shaw tossed a shutout inning in both games. Shaw recorded his third save of the season on July 15th against the Cotuit Kettleers while striking out two. Shaw now has a 1.68 ERA in 10.2 innings, with 12 strikeouts.


Cotuit Kettleers

*Sean Sullivan RHP: The sophomore from the University of California had his best outing of the season. On July 16th against the Orleans Firebirds, Sullivan tossed six shutout innings giving up only four hits, and six strikeouts


*Jackson Wolf LHP: The junior southpaw from West Virginia had another good outing on July 19th against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Wolf pitched four innings giving up two runs, one earned run, six hits, and struck out five.


*Mason McWhorter OF/1B: The senior from Georgia Southern had a good week. McWhorter went five for 15, with two runs, and two runs batted in.


*Adam Oviedo SS/2B: The middle infielder from TCUs standout performance was on July 19th against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Oviedo went two for three, with three runs, one double, one home run, and two runs batted in.

Wareham Gatemen

*Jonathan Gates LHP: The sophomore from Miami had another quality outing out of the bullpen on July 16th against the Falmouth Commodores. Gates threw three and two-thirds innings giving up one earned run, three hits, and struck out six. Gates now has a 2.64 ERA in 17 innings pitched, with 18 strikeouts.


*Lukas Veinbergs SP: The senior from Mizzou recorded a win in his Cape League debut on July 20th against the Bourne Braves. Veinbergs pitched six innings giving up three runs, two earned runs, six hits, one walk, and struck out one.


Falmouth Commodores

*Chris Gonzalez LHP: The junior southpaw from Stetson recorded his first win on July 20th against the Orleans Firebirds. Gonzalez tossed six shutout innings giving up five hits, one walk, and struck out two.


*Zachary Brzykcy CL: The junior closer from Virginia Tech recorded two saves this week. Brzykcy recorded saves on July 16th and July 20th against the Wareham Gatemen and Orleans Firebirds. Brzykcy now has five saves this season, with one win, a 2.25 ERA, and nine strikeouts in eight innings pitched.


*Baron Radcliff OF/DH: The junior power hitter from Georgia Tech had a good week at the plate. Radcliff went five for 14, with two runs, one double, two home runs, five runs batted in, two walks, and two stolen bases. Radcliff also participated in this year's Home Run Hitting Contest.


Nick Nastrini RHP: The sophomore from UCLA had another quality outing. Nastrini tossed four and one-third innings, with three hits, three walks, and struck out six.

Hyannis Harbor Hawks:

*Konnor Ash RHP: The junior from Mizzou had two quality outings this week: On July 15th against the Falmouth Commodores, Ash threw five and two-thirds innings giving up one earned run, four hits, one walk, and struck out eight. On July 20th against the Cotuit Kettleers, Ash recorded his first save of the season throwing one and one third shutout innings giving up two hits, one walk, and struck out three.


*Ian Fair 1B/3B: The junior from Northeastern had a good week. Fair went nine for 21, with two runs, two doubles, and three runs batted in.


*Trevor Hauver OF/2B: The sophomore sun devil had a good week. Hauver went six for 16, with six runs, four walks, and one stolen base.
