CAPE COD, Mass. – 
A special two-hour documentary about the Cape League is scheduled to be released in early July. Touching the Game: The Story of the Cape Cod Baseball League, produced by Fields of Vision will be televised both locally and nationally, as well as sold as a DVD. 

     Coordinated by Peter Frechette and Jim Carroll of Fields of Vision, the DVD will contain an extended version of the film and many extras pulled from over 70 hours of footage the crew shot last summer. The documentary also includes extensive interviews with league officials, players, managers, fans and over 60 current Major Leaguers who played on the Cape, mostly interviewed during spring training.

     The documentary is expected to premiere at a local theater (s) and also sold at Cape League fields later this summer.


CCBL TRY-OUT SET FOR JUNE 5 IN WAREHAM
     Commissioner Paul Galop announced the annual Cape Cod Baseball League Pre-Season Tryout is scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at Spillane Field in Wareham. The rain date is Sunday, June 6. 
     The CCBL Tryout is under the direction of Harvard baseball coach Joe Walsh and other Cape League coaches and representatives. The event is organized and administrated by John Wylde, president and GM of the Wareham Gatemen.
     There will be 75 players invited to the tryouts from nominations from college coaches and major league scouts.


FIRST PITCH BRUNCH SET FOR JUNE 13 AT RAMADA INN/HYANNIS
     CCBL President Judy Walden Scarafile has announced that the Cape League’s First Pitch Brunch will be held Sunday, June 13 at the Ramada Inn/Hyannis. All 10 Cape League field managers will preview their 2004 teams and Committee Chair Jim Higgins will announce the 2005 Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame inductees. 


CCBL EXHIBITS ITS WARES
    The Cape League exhibited tables at both the Cape Cod Volunteer Expo at Sheraton Hyannis Resort on April 14 and Tech Showcase 2004 at Cape Cod Community College on March 24. Several people signed up to work at CCBL games in 2004 at the volunteer expo, while the league showcased its popular web-site at Tech Showcase. Last year, the league’s web-site hosted eight million hits and 350,000 visitors.

     American League: Brian Roberts (Chatham ’98) of the Baltimore Orioles got off to a torrid start with a .361 batting avg…Jason Varitek (Hyannis) and Bill Mueller (Bourne ’92) both went 2-for-4 to lead the Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the Yankees last week. David McCarty (Cotuit ’89) scored the go-ahead run after his first hit of the season…Scott Williamson (Chatham ’96) saved a 2-0 contest for ace Pedro Martinez with two hitless innings to lead the Red Sox to a weekend sweep at Yankee Stadium… Adam Kennedy (Falmouth ’96) of the Anaheim Angels is among loop leaders with 12 RBI…Carlos Pena (Harwich ’96, Wareham ’97) of the Detroit Tigers is among the league leaders with 12 runs scored.

    National League: David Aardsma (Falmouth ’02) of the San Francisco Giants earned his first MLB win…Houston Astros infielder Jeff Bagwell (Chatham ‘87-88) leads the major leagues with 20 runs scored….The Astros’ Craig Biggio (Y-D ’86) leads the league with nine doubles and is among the NL hit leaders with 24…Kris Benson (Hyannis ’94) is off to a 2-1 start for the Pittsburgh Pirates…Newly acquired Billy Wagner (Brewster ’92) of the Phillies is among the save leaders with five…Jeff Conine (Orleans ’86) blasted a two-run homer to lead the Florida Marlins to a 7-4 win over the Braves Saturday.
