After a successful Opening Day, here is a brief recap of what went on around the league!

Brewster at Cotuit

After a five run first inning for Cotuit and a very strong start for Ball State’s John Baker, the Kettleers cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Whitecaps last night. Baker went five strong innings giving up no runs on six hits and striking out eight while the offense had it going in the bottom half of innings. Wright State’s Peyton Burdick had a night at the plate for Cotuit picking up four hits, three of which were home runs, and racking up seven RBIs. Cotuit takes on Bourne at home today (one of two 5:00PM slates) and Brewster will look to rebound tonight and get their first win of the season as they travel to Orleans and take on the Firebirds for the 7:00PM game.

Notable Performances:

Brett Centracchio (Davidson): 1-1 (PH), 2B, RBI

    Thomas Dillard (Ole Miss): 2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 BB, 3 R
    Deacon Medders (Alabama): 4.0, 1 R (0 ER), 2 H, 3K, 0BB

Bourne at Yarmouth-Dennis

Bourne traveled to Red Wilson Field to play Y-D for the second 5:00PM game last night. It ended up being a barn burner, finishing 10-9 in favor of the Red Sox. Despite Bourne scoring three in the top of the ninth to take the lead 9-8 going into the bottom half of the inning, Y-D scored two and walked it off in fashion. After a leadoff walk to Matthew Toke to begin the inning, the Sox were able to string together two hits.  Matt Dyer ended the night with a single to third base that popped over the head of Bourne’s Serratos bringing in the winning run (Govern from 2nd).  Bourne travels to Cotuit today (5:00PM) to rebound off the ninth inning loss, while the Red Sox stay home to take on Chatham (5:00PM).

Notable Performances:

Spencer Brickhouse (ECU): 2-4, HR, 3 RBI
Chase Murray (GATech): 2-3, 2B, 2 BB, 1 R

Zach Ashford (Fresno St): 4-5, 1 RBI, 3 R, SB
Jim Govern (E. Illinois): 3-5, 1 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB
Adam Kerner (USD): 3-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI

Falmouth at Hyannis

The Commodores traveled to McKeon Park to take on the Harbor Hawks for the 6:00PM game. Falmouth let up a run in the bottom of the first, but got things going in the third inning. They strung together four hits for six runs, including a two-run triple for SS Hayden Cantrelle. The third inning breakout and some solid pitching from Falmouth helped take the victory 10-4. This was the longest game of the evening, taking 3 hours and 9 minutes. Today, the teams will switch home fields and rematch each other at 6:00PM.

Notable Performances:

    Ian Koch (Western Illinois): 2.1, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
    Hayden Cantrelle (UL-Laf): 2-4, 3 RBI, BB

Matthew Barefoot (Campbell): 1-1, HR, 2 RBI

Orleans at Harwich

It was a defensive battle between the Firebirds and Mariners, featuring an impressive pitching performance from both teams. Six strong innings from Harwich’s Garrett Stallings of Tennessee helped edge Orleans 3-2. Stallings gave up two runs on four hits, while sitting down five Firebirds on strikes. Both of Orleans runs came from a home run in the 6th inning off the bat of Jaxx Groshans from Kansas. Harwich will travel to Wareham today at 6:30PM, while Orleans will have their first home game against Brewster at 7:00PM.

Notable Performances:

    Jaxx Groshans (Kansas): 3-4, HR, 2 RBI, 1 R
    Levi Stoudt (Lehigh): 4.0, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K

    Raymond Gil (Miami): 2-3, 2B, BB, R
    Christian Santana (FIU): 2.0, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K
Wareham at Chatham

Wareham started their 2018 campaign right with a three-run top of the first to give them an early cushion. Adding another in the fifth, the Anglers responded with their own three run inning in the bottom half of the frame. However, a 5 hit, seven run ninth inning for the Gatemen, including a grand slam from UC-Berkeley’s Andrew Vaughn, really broke things open late in the game, as they went home with an opening day victory 12-4. Wareham will host Harwich at home today, first pitch scheduled for 6:30PM, and Chatham will travel to Y-D for one of two 5:00PM game slots.

Notable Performances:

Oliver Dunn (Utah): 2-3, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB

Tristin English (GA Tech): 2-3, 2 R, RBI, BB
