27 Drafted Players Perform in Cape League in 2006
CAPE COD, Mass. – With a professional baseball career just around the corner , a total of 27 players selected in the 2006 Major League June Draft performed in the Cape Cod Baseball League this past summer.
Heading the list of drafted players who remained unsigned and played in the nation’s premier summer league was CCBL Playoff MVP David Robertson (Alabama), a 17th round draft choice of the New York Yankees.
Robertson led the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to the CCBL title by striking out 15 batters in 15 innings during the postseason, while allowing no base-runners.
Other top drafted players included All-League catcher Mitch Canham (Oregon State) of Falmouth, drafted in the 41st round by the St. Louis Cardinals and All-League slugger Matt LaPorta (Florida) of Brewster, who totaled six home runs, 19 RBI and a .463 slugging percentage and was a 14th round pick of the Boston Red Sox.
A total of 175 CCBL alumni were selected in the MLB Draft, including a record-setting 16 in the first (12) and supplemental (4) rounds combined.

The 15 new players, coupled with the four 2006 only players already listed and the 175 players who were CCBL alumni before the draft brings the overall total to 194, the most ever and eight higher than the 186 overall in 2004)
